ERA and Futed Build a Student Computer Room in Chile

Donation

Donated laptops set up in the new student computer room at Escuela Básica G-N 348 Huechún in Chile

In April 2026, the students of Escuela Básica G-N 348 Huechún in Chile got something their school had never had before: a computer room of their own.

The room was built with five refurbished laptops donated through the ERA network and delivered by Futed, our long-running partner on the ground in Chile. Futed handled the local logistics and setup, turning a stack of laptops into a working space where students can practice typing, research homework, and build the digital skills every classroom now assumes.

Why five laptops matter

Five laptops may not sound like much, but in a small school they change the math completely. Instead of waiting for a turn on a single aging machine — or going without — students at Huechún can now rotate through dedicated workstations as part of their regular school day. For many of them, it is the first computer they have ever had steady access to.

Partnerships like this one are why the ERA network exists. Futed has worked with the network for years, and every shipment starts the same way: a business somewhere decides its retired laptops still have life left in them.

Thank you to Futed for making this project real, and to the donors whose retired equipment found a second life in Huechún's new computer room.
