Donating to the Calgary Housing Company

Today, we donated two laptops to the Calgary Housing Company. These laptops will go to a single mother raising her teenage son. One of these laptops will be used by the mother to connect with friends, learn new skills and for day to day use, like editing and printing documents. The other laptop will be used by her son for school, to connect with friends and play games.

Calgary Housing Company provides safe and affordable housing solutions for low- and moderate- income Calgarians in need of non-market rental housing. They operate and manage over 10,000 housing units. They meet tenant needs through their varied programs, which include:

• Rent subsidies
• Progressive, short-term housing with shallow subsidies
• Deep subsidies for those in need of permanent, stable housing

Their building management strategy uses a “mixed-income model” that combines market rates with deep subsidies. By balancing the proportion of units within an individual building, Calgary Housing Company ensures that new affordable housing developments are financially sustainable while providing an inclusionary approach to housing where tenants of mixed financial means are blended together.
